Advantages of LTPS TFT LCD
There are significant advantages to using LTPS TFT LCDs as compared to amorphous TFT LCDs. With newer electronic devices being designed and mass marketed for tomorrow’s consumers, the growing importance of the LTPS TFT LCD cannot be underestimated since it is predicted that nearly all consumer electronics devices will be equipped with LTPS TFT LCDs as the de facto standard, making it a mainstream technology serving a worldwide market.
LTPS TFT LCD offers many advantages that establish itself as the emerging champion in display technology. It is widely considered to be the perfect choice for the next generation’s electronic products.
The crystallized silicon grain structure of LTPS TFT LCD is much larger and more uniform in character and size. This supports much faster electron flows in transistors than the conventional uncrystallized silicon of amorphous TFT LCDs.
Due to the faster electron flow, each individual transistor in each individual sub-pixel is much smaller than that of the amorphous silicone substrate. This contributes to an increase in aperture ratio which enhances the performance of the display, creating higher resolution and richer color images that are more vivid and realistic.
The polycrystal silicon also allows each pixel to be controlled by smaller peripheral circuits including driver ICs. The peripheral driver circuit that controls the display can thus be brought directly onto the substrate, hence eliminating the external mounting around the display panel. This significantly reduces the space required at the periphery of the panel, the overall component count and the number of connection pins required. It further achieves lower power consumption, higher durability and greater design flexibility, making it ideal for portable applications ranging from digital cameras to notebook PCs.
